Our first home school field trip!

We decided last Saturday at the very last minute to take a trip to St. Joe. We wanted to take some time away from the house before the official home schooling started this Monday. Once we got there we realised we had a perfect opportunity to have a field trip for school. So on Sunday morning our field trip began with a visit to the River Front park and learned about the Lewis and Clark trail. Then we headed to the Pony Express National Museum. There we learned about the pony express and the three men that started it. We learned about the history of the Patee Hotel, and what sort of things different shops from the late 1800's and early 1900's had to offer, weapons they had during that time, what a house looked like, what a room in the hotel room looked like, we were able to go on a train they had, and during our time in the museum we played a scavenger hunt type game which really pleased the kids. After that was over we got to take a tour of the house Jesse James was killed in. The kids found that quite fascinating. Especially the pictures of the excavation they did in 1995 to test his DNA! So all five hours we spent touring all that was all counted as school work...how cool is that?!?!? The next day I made up Quizzes for the kids on the Pony Express as well as Jesse James and Tuesday we watched the Assassination of Jesse James movie....which was awesome!

So we are on day number 3 of official home schooling and it is going better then I could ask for. The kids truly respect me as their teacher and have really followed the rules and really seem to love it. I think as long as I keep creative and give them at least one thing a day that is out of normal school work ( ex.Jesse James) stuff then I will be alright. I am blessed that they all have been in school before so they know how to respect a teacher and what the rules are so they show me that very same respect. Which is nice....less work for me:):) Here are some of the pictures from our field trip!
